Delta State Government is to build additional nineteen Technical Colleges in Governor Okowa’s second tenure to boost technical and vocational education at the grassroots.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this at the commissioning of the Idumuogo-Obomkpa road project in Aniocha north local government area.
The six-point-six-eight kilometre road project, which was awarded in November 2016 and completed in May 2019, has five-point-two-eight kilometre of drains on both sides and a one kilometre discharge tunnel from the end of the road to the river.
Commissioning the project, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed plans by government to ensure that every local government area in the state had a Technical College to bring education closer to the people.
The Governor said there would be a slight policy shift from road construction to the development of the education sector and promised to continue on the road map of renovating and reconstructing schools in the state.
Governor Okowa directed the Commissioner for Works to initiate the process of extending the road to Ukwunzu community and promised to look into ways of restoring electricity supply to the community.
Works Commissioner, Chief James Augoye, said the completion of the Idumuogo-Obomkpa road suffered a major setback when the first contractor was kidnapped, pointing out that the project was eventually completed by another contractor.
In their remarks, the Chairman of the Aniocha north local government, Mr. Chuks Oseme, the President General of Obomkpa Progressive Union, Mr. Charles Ogedi and the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Chief Nkem Okwuofu thanked the state government for the completion of the road.
They pledged the continued support of the people for the Okowa administration and appealed to the Governor not to relent in taking development to the grassroots as that was the only way to give them a sense of belonging in the governance of the state.
Governor Okowa had on arrival visited the traditional ruler of Obomkpa community, Obi Onyemaechi Josiah Kanyinaga the first, where the monarch thanked him for alleviating the suffering of the people occasioned by the deplorable state of the road.
