The Delta state government has commenced the verification of office locations of registered political parties in the state.
The exercise was informed by the suspicion that some of the political parties are not on ground in the state, even when they have executive officers and enjoy the benefits accruing to the parties.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter Party Relations, Honourable Efe Tobor, led the verification team to the offices of seventeen political parties on Monday for an on the spot assessment of their operational status.
Honourable Efe Tobor said the state government was interested in the comfort of the political parties, adding that none of the parties could operate effectively without an office.
He commended the state chapters of the African Democratic Congress(ADC), the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA) and the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance(APDA) for having befitting secretariats.
The Senior Special Assistant, while expressing dismay at the poor office environment in which most of the parties were operating, including some that are located in law offices, motor garages and one room apartments, said government would only partner with serious minded political parties. He was particularly not happy with the African Peoples Alliance (APA) which had no office in the state.
Honourable Efe Tobor maintained that a good office would boost the reputation of any political party, stressing that the government would relate with the parties according to the condition of their offices.
Some of the party chairmen, including Prince Joe Chukwu of the ADC, Honourable Afam Enemokwu of APGA and Prince Azuka Ogbokaa of APDA, commended the SSA for the verification, saying it was necessary to ensure sanity in the system. They expressed support for the state government in advancing democracy in the state.
The party offices verified were those of Masses Movement of Nigeria (MMN), Advanced Congress of Democrats ( ACD), Accord Party, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alliance Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), United Progressive Party ( UPP),Action Alliance and All Peoples Movement (APM)
Others are Alliance for Democracy (AD), All Progreesive Grand Alliance ( APGA), Alliance for a United Nigeria (AUN), Advanced Allied Party (AAP), Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), Alternative Party of Nigeria (APN), Allied Peoples Movement (APM) All Grassroots Alliance (AGA) and African Peoples Alliance (APA).
