The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Chike Edozien, has called on the three tiers of government in the country to imbibe the culture of building on the legacies of their predecessors to guarantee sustainable development of the society.
The Asaba monarch made the call while playing host to the chairman and members of the State Council of Traditional Rulers who visited to welcome him from a medical vacation abroad.
Obi Edozien, a Professor of Human Anatomy, advised against abandonment of projects and attributed the slow pace of development in the country to the focus of government on building new structures instead of consolidating already achieved gains.
He commended his colleagues for the visit and for keeping the council going.
The Nonegenarian stressed the need for government to provide a conducive environment for the royal fathers to play their role of maintaining peace in their domains and preserving the cultural heritage of their communities.
Obi Edozien seized the opportunity to thank his palace chiefs and indeed all indigenes of Asaba for ensuring peace and tranquility in the land in his absence, and assured them that he would remain committed to providing the leadership that would take the community to the next level of development.
The chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, who is also the Obi of Owa kingdom, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor the second, said the visit was to felicitate with the Asagba for his safe return to the country after over three years of a medical vacation.
Obi Efeizomor thanked God for granting the Asagba good health and commended the Asagba-in-Council and indigenes of Asaba for holding the forth while their king was away.
The Traditional Rulers Council chairman recalled the role played by Obi Edozien in improving the welfare of traditional rulers in the state, noting that his absence was felt in the Council and the state at large.
