Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has called on people of the state to sink their political differences and join forces with him to make the state the envy of others.

The Governor made the call on Thursday (yesterday) when the governorship candidates of opposition political parties in the state for the 2019 gubernatorial election paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Asaba. He said the elections have come and gone and it was time for all stakeholders to put the outcome of the exercise behind them and place the interest of the state above personal considerations, irrespective of party affiliation.

Governor Okowa thanked his opponents for their support for his reelection, especially for adopting him as the consensus candidate for the election, stressing that it showed that the political family in the state shared the same interest.

The Governor expressed delight at the commitment of opposition political parties in the state to the success of the general election, noting that they all worked together to ensure the conduct of credible elections by actively participating in every electoral process which helped to reduce challenges in the elections.

He promised to continue to run an all inclusive administration that would allow every segment of the state to feel the sense of belonging and assured the governorship candidates that their request for the appointment of a Special Adviser on Inter Party Relations would be looked into.
Governor Okowa solicited continued partnership with the State Forum of Governorship Candidates for the 2019 elections and assured that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him by Deltans.

Earlier, the spokesman for the Forum of Governorship Candidates, Dr Clarke Mejebi, said members of the Forum decided to adopt Senator Okowa as the consensus governorship candidate because they were convinced that he had performed beyond expectation.

Dr Clarke refuted the allegation that the Forum was bribed to make its decision, stressing that ” it would be senseless for anyone to overlook the good works of the Governor and expect gratification for adopting him.” He congratulated the Governor on his victory at the polls, saying that it only testified to the fact that he had performed well.

The Forum’s spokesman, who is also the governorship candidate of the Green Party of Nigeria, pledged the continued support of the body for the Governor, urging him to run an all inclusive administration that would accommodate members of opposition political parties.
