The Nigerian Military has been rated high for its professionalism during the 2019 general elections.
The Delta State Acting Governor, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro did the rating on Wednesday at Government House Asaba,
when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai and some top army officials paid him a courtesy visit.
Barrister Otuaro said, though some states in the country had a bitter experience in the hands of the Nigerian Army during the elections, the case was different in Delta state.
While praising the Nigerian Army for achieving a peaceful environment for oil production in Delta State, the Acting Governor urged the military to maintain the good image it had achieved for itself over years.
He said some committees were set up when the present administration came into office in 2015 to ensure peace in all parts of the State, noting that the input of the military had helped to address hostilities in the riverine communities and other flash points in the State.
Barrister Otuaro said the collaboration and partnership with the army had been fruitful and rewarding, adding that the policies and programmes of governmnet could hardly be realised in an atmosphere of insecurity and breach of peace.
The Acting Governor said government would assist in the burial of the late General David Ejoor because of his landmark achievements while in service..
Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, said he came to condoled with the Delta State government and Deltans over the passing of Retired Major General David Ejoor.
Lt. Gen. Buratai, who said the army had gone to pay a condolence visit to the family of Late David Ejoor, noted that plans had reached an advanced stage for the burial and sued for the support of the state government in according him a befitting burial.
According to him, Late Gen. David Ejoor was a gallant soldier and a dedicated officer, adding that his demise was a great loss to the Nigerian Army, the people of Delta State and the country at large.
Lt.Gen. Buratai said, the establishment of the 63 Brigade in Asaba was part of efforts to strengthen security in the waterways and thanked the Delta State government for its support for the take off of the military formation.
The chief of army staff said no effort would be spared in the maintenance of peace in all parts of the country and solicited the collaboration of Nigerians in making the country safe for all.
The ocassion was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Honourable Festus Agas, some commissioners in the State, including the Commissioner for Information, Chief Patrick Ukah, the State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko and other top government functionaries.
