The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has been asked to respect the independence of the legislative arm of government by not interfering with the leadership tussle in the National Assembly.

The second member of the Board of the Delta State Post Primary Education Board, PPEB, Dr Henry Ofa, made the call in Asaba while reacting to the interest of the APC in the choice of leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Dr Ofa noted that the National Assembly comprised of highly respected members who could chose their leaders based on the leadership qualities of those presenting themselves for the positions.

He said imposition of leaders on the National Assembly was undemocratic as it could pitch the leadership and the rest of the members against each other, prompting loss of confidence and impeachments.

Dr Ofa recalled what played out in the 8th Assembly, leading to the emergence of Saraki and Dogara, against the wish of the government and how it ensured the stability of the Senate and House of Representatives even with the series of impeachment threats.

On the next session of the Delta State House of Assembly, the second member said he was not expecting anything else than the best of legislative business considering the calibre of the members-elect.

He expressed optimism that the Assembly would bring its role to bear in the actualization of the people oriented policies and programmes of the Okowa administration.
