DELTA TASK FORCE ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND ILLEGAL MIGRATION PROMISES HARD TIMES FOR TRAFFICKERS

The Delta State Task Force on Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration has vowed to tackle head long the menace of human trafficking and ensure the prosecution of offenders.

The chairman of the Task Force, Barrister Peter Mrakpor, who stated this at the maiden press briefing of the Task Force in Asaba, noted that the ugly trends were gradually assuming alarming dimensions in the state.

Barrister Mrakpor, who is also the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said the mandate of the Task Force was to clamp down on operators of illegal orphanages involved in the sale of babies, baby factories, traffickers in persons and others involved in illegal migration.

Others mandate areas according to him, include the rehabilitation of orientation of Deltans deported for illegal migration to make them useful to themselves and the society.

He said the Task Force would adopt sensitization, and Town Hall interactive sessions with critical stakeholders, including traditional rulers, civil society, women and youth groups, churches and mosques in its approach to achieving set goals and sued for the cooperation of all in the task ahead.

Barrister Mrakpor said many suspected traffickers were already being prosecuted, pointing out that there would be no sacred cow on the march to get things right.

He added that the Task Force was working with the National Agency For The Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons, NAPTIP, to give the fight against human trafficking in the state a global outlook.

The state Commissioner for Information, Chief Patrick Ukah, solicited collaboration with the press and other stakeholders to enable the Task Force achieve the set objectives.

Chief Ukah said the Task Force would be carrying its campaign to different parts of the state and urged media practitioners in the state to join the campaign.
