Wife of the Delta state Governor and Founder 05 Initiative, Dame Edith Okowa, has commended the State House of Assembly for passing the State Sickle Cell Centre Bill.
Dame Okowa, in a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Alicia Dominic-Okobi, said the bill when signed into law would give a boost to the 05 initiative’s drive to eradicate the sickle cell scourge in the state.
The Governor’s wife said the move would assist in addressing the issue of stigmatization of sickle cell challenged persons and in creating awareness about the sickle cell disorder.
Dame Okowa reiterated that sickle cell anaemia is not a death sentence and encouraged persons living with the disorder to be positive about their situation.
She urged well meaning individuals and organisations to remain supportive of parents and caregivers of sickle cell patients and join in the fight against the sickle cell disorder.
