INEC PRESENTS CERTIFICATE OF RETURN TO GOV OKOWA

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has presented certificates of return to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and Deacon Kingsley Otuaro as Delta state Governor and Deputy Governor-elect.

In a colourful ceremony at the INEC office in Asaba, Governor Okowa promised to improve on his performance in his second term in office.

Governor Okowa said what he achieved in his first tenure were made possible through effective collaboration with Deltans and promised to connect more with the people in achieving a stronger Delta State.

The Governor said at the end of his second term in 2023, Deltans would be proud of their decision to re-elect him, adding that his administration would not deviate from the will of God for the state.

He thanked INEC for conducting peaceful and credible elections in the state and commended the security agencies for their professionalism  during the electoral process.

While admonishing politicians to be selfless and accountable to the people when occupying positions of trust, Governor Okowa said that was necessary for the growth of democracy in the country.

In his address on the occasion, INEC National Commissioner, Dr. Mohammed Lecky, stressed the need for politicians to place the nation above self, as that was the only way the electorate could enjoy dividends of democracy.

The Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe whose address was read by the Administrative Secretary, Sir Felix Enabor, said the commission in collaboration with security agencies was able to achieve a peaceful election.

Governor Okowa polled a total of nine hundred and twenty five thousand, two hundred and seventy four votes to emerge winner of the March nine gubernatorial election.
