Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has identified huge expenses incurred by politicians during the electoral process as a major cause of corruption in the country.
Governor Okowa made the remark when he played host to a delegation of the State Traditional Rulers Council.
Governor Okowa said his administration would continue to partner with traditional rulers in building a more united Delta State in his second tenure in office.
He said administration would remain focused in its partnership with the people for equitable distribution of developmental projects and in promoting good governance to make the state the pride of the nation.
The Governor promised to partner with communities which embark on self help projects by making adequate provision for the completion of such projects with a view to fast-tracking the development of the state.
Senator Okowa said his administration would speed up the completion of the traditional rulers council state secreteriat in Asaba to give the executive a more conducive environment to discharge their duties.
While promising to engage the police and other security agencies in the clampdown of self acclaimed traditional rulers in the state Governor said the action of such impersonators was capable of causing a breakdown of law and order.
The Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Owa kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomo the second congratulated the Governor on his electoral victory and promised to work closely with him in the development of the state.
He acknowledged that Governor Okowa had never undermined any traditional ruler in the course of governing the state, pointing out that the state government’s job and wealth creation programmes had recorded a huge success in eradicating unemployment.
Obi Efeizomo appealed to the Governor to take a critical look at the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the state, especially in the destruction of farmlands and wanton killings of farmers.
