There is tension in Osun especially within the camp of the two main political parties, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja is set to deliver its judgment on the petition before it on Friday, March 22.
It would be recalled that the candidate of PDP and Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Ademola Adeleke, filed a petition challenging the victory of Governor Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.
The tribunal had three days ago announced its readiness to give judgment on the petition filed.
Adeleke is seeking an order of the tribunal to overturn Oyetola’s victory saying in the petition that he ought to have been declared winner of the September 22nd and 27th rerun governorship election in the state having secured majority of the lawful votes cast during the exercise .
He said in the petition that the election was rigged in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress, stressing that there were manipulation of votes cast by people of the state.
Since the news of the impending judgment filtered to both parties, tension has gripped the camp of the parties.
Initially, there was wild jubilation within the camp of the opposition, PDP as they have strong conviction that the tribunal will give them justice.
The PDP State Chairman, Honourable Soji Adagunodo, had appealed to members not to be over joyous when the verdict is delivered but still operate within the confine of the law.
But the Secretary of APC, Honourable Razaq Salinsile, has urged members to pray for the victory of Governor Oyetola at the tribunal.
Salinsile in a statement urged members of the ruling party to remain calm, saying there was no cause for alarm.
He urged the party loyalists to pray fervently for Governor Oyetola’s victory at the Tribunal, saying ‘we believe so much in efficacy of prayer and with prayer nothing is impossible’.
