ENGINEERS IN DELTA STATE PUBLIC SERVICE SEEK INVOLVEMENT IN PROJECT DESIGN AND EXECUTION

Delta state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has been commended for embarking on the construction of a mega secretariat complex to accommodate Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government still in rented apartments.

The chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Asaba branch, Engineer John Akatugba, gave the commendation when he led members of the body on an inspection of the gigantic project.

Engineer Akatugba, who praised the Governor’s political will in executing such other projects as the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, the Asaba storm control tunnels, as well as the proposed 8 megawatts gas fired plant to power public offices and quarters in Asaba, urged the state government to involve engineers in the public service in the execution of infrastructural projects to guarantee quality delivery and value for money in line with the SMART agenda of the Okowa administration.

He also called for the implementation of the Local Content Policy in project execution in order to encourage Nigerian engineers and other professionals.

Engineer Akatugba said the visit was to ascertain whether the project met the required quality standards.
