The Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council, has congratulated the Delta state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on his victory at the just concluded 2019 gubernatorial election.

The union, in a congratulatory message issued by its State Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, noted that reports from across the state, adjudged the electoral process leading to the re-election of the Governor as free, fair transparent and credible, contrary to fears of threat to peace, order and security of lives and property.

It stated that the victory was a bold endorsement by Deltans of the principle of equity and rotation of the governorship seat among the three senatorial districts in Delta State, as well as an endorsement of continuity of the developmental strides of the Governor given the overwhelming votes he got from all parts of  the state.

The Delta NUJ saluted the patience, tenacity and doggedness exhibited by Senator Okowa all through the electioneering period and thanked God  for crowning his efforts with victory.

The state council also congratulated  other political parties and their candidates, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, on the concerted efforts put into the campaigns, which  helped to make for engaging and robust electioneering campaigns in the state.

While calling on all political parties and their candidates that participated in the gubernatorial election in the state to accept the outcome with gallantry, the council urged Governor Okowa to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship to all stakeholders in the Delta State development project.

The council said with the elections over,  governance should follow; explaining why the Governor must endeavour to focus on the continuation of development and progress in the state, while Deltans and politicians should also allow for governance and avoid politicking for the next elections.

The leadership of the union in the state pledged to contribute objectively to facilitate the success of the Okowa administration as it looked forward to a robust relationship with the Government of Delta State in deepening democratic tenets and good governance.

The council prayed for God’s continuous guidance, grace of insight like that of King Solomon on Governor Okowa and the will-power to fully accomplish the content of his administration’s blueprint encapsulated in the SMART Agenda.
