13th March, 2019
The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed comments from the All Progressives Congress, APC that the 2019 polls in the State were rigged, describing them as the shedding of Crocodile tears by a political party that was comprehensively trounced on the March 9, 2019 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
Reacting to multiple statements published and credited to the APC State Chairman, Mr. Jones Erhue and its Gubernatorial Candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, the Delta State PDP Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, said the PDP was neither surprised nor bothered by the insinuations of election malpractice coming from the opposition party, as such have now become predictably synonymous and expected of APC, at the end of every election cycle.
Osuoza added that the APC and Chief Ogboru were even more pained and disappointed with the crushing defeat they suffered in this particular election, because they completely put all their hopes in the so called “Federal might”, which their National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole had boasted with in the days and weeks leading to the elections and had even anticipated that this “Federal might” will come thundering down from Abuja and roll over Deltans in a power show of oppression and audacity that will usher in a victory that the APC did not merit or deserve, at the end of the polls.
Dr. Osuoza said: “Once again, the Delta PDP is compelled to react to the now predictable ritual of the APC to shed crocodile tears of election rigging and intimidations of its members, as reasons for their comprehensive trouncing at the polls, after every election cycle and so we are neither surprised nor disappointed that they are singing the same old song again.
“However, the bitter taste of defeat is more painful and hard to swallow this year for the simple reason that they had been deceived into putting all their hopes and trust in the deployment of the so threatened “Federal might” promised by their National Chairman, ex-comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who had boasted loudly about his obsession to “capture and conquer” Delta State and Deltans for the APC.
“The APC’s arrogance in predicting and arrogating victory to themselves, even without campaigning and before the first ballot had been cast, was also buoyed by the presence of a former PDP Governor in their ranks and the hopeless expectations that he would magically conjure victory for them, the same way he did when he was in the PDP, but unfortunately what he did not tell the APC was that elections are won by hard work on the campaign fields and track records of contestants and not by deployment of “Federal might”.
“Even more painful to the APC is the fact that, just like the law of karma, what they had planned to do to the PDP was exactly the fate that befell them, as Deltans would recall that prior to the commencement of the elections, a reign of terror, harassment, forced arrests on trumped up charges and even a couple of assassinations had been unleashed on our members by the APC, in their grand design to intimidate, destabilise and overrun the PDP out of the elections.
However, the timely alarm we raised to draw the attention of Deltans and the global community to their nefarious activities, ensured that not only did the APC not have compromised solders, policemen and electoral officials to manipulate as they had anticipated, the people designated to conduct and supervise the Delta State elections, were well trained and uncompromising electoral officials as well as gallant and patriotic officers of the Nigerian Army, Police and other security agencies, who were not only firm in enforcing the law on the day of election, but exhibited impressive professionalism and strict adherence to the doctrine of Peacetime Rules of Engagement (PROE), to the chagrin and utter misfortune of the APC.
“In the end, the votes and PVCs of Deltans spoke overwhelmingly, their votes counted in landslide numbers and our people bravely and proudly chose to vote for peace and unity and to secure and maintain their freedom instead of becoming slaves to the “federal might” in their own State.
“We wish therefore to tell the APC loud and clear, that Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa (Ekwueme) won the March 9, 2019 Delta State Governorship election fair and square and in a clear, transparent and credible electoral process, which has been verified and endorsed by both local and international observers, as one of the best organized and freely conducted elections in the 2019 general election post mortem.
“We have also noted all the grouching and belly-aching rants of Chief Great Ogboru and APC as regards over-voting, ballot box snatching and all such delusional and hallucinatory exaggerations, caused certainly by the intoxicating overdose of crushing defeat and painful failure. We also appreciate their intention to approach legitimate authorities and present their hopelessly inept and weightless allegations for appraisal.
“We believe that is the proper thing to do and while we join our victorious Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to extend our hand of fellowship and comradeship to one and all to partner with the PDP and make Delta State better, stronger and greater for Deltans, we want to also state here categorically and without any equivocation, that we are fully ready and prepared to meet APC in Court, if they choose to go that way.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s second term mandate is clean, clear and comprehensive and you can take that to the bank.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s second term mandate is clean, clear and comprehensive and you can take that to the bank.
Deltans have once again proven to the world that PDP is Delta and Delta State is PDP. Our victory is the triumphant victory of our people, who have chosen freedom over slavery, unity instead of division, peace instead of crises. Power belongs to the people and they have spoken overwhelmingly. _Vox populi, vox Dei._
PDP! Power to the People!!!
Long live PDP.
God Bless Delta State.
