The PDP campaign coordinator for Delta north, Honourable Pascal Adigwe, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to reduce the suffering of people who live far away from their polling centres by allowing them to be driven close to the centres.
Honourable Adigwe, who made the appeal at a stakeholders meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Asaba on Wednesday, noted that many eligible voters, particularly the elderly people, were made to trek long distances to their polling centres in Asaba during the February 23 elections, citing the Uzoigwe Primary School Centre as an example.
He said the stress associated with the long trek was discouraging and could cause some people not to bother to vote and urged INEC and security operatives to relax the condition for Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The one time House of Reps member, who later spoke with newsmen, urged PDP faithful not to be deterred by whatever challenge they might face in getting to vote for the party’s candidates on Saturday, assuring them that the victory of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all other PDP candidates was worth the trouble.
Honourable Adigwe urged Deltans, particularly the people of Delta north, not to succumb to intimidation or harassment as the troop out enmass to vote on Saturday, adding that they should stay back after casting their votes to protect the votes.
He appealed to them to shun violence as victory was sure for Governor Okowa and other PDP candidates.
