Governor Ifeanyi Okowa says there is no plan by his administration to either retrench or send any civil servant on compulsory retirement.
Governor Okowa who was speaking in a meeting with the leadership of the organised labour in Asaba, described the information as a lie floated by the the opposition to ruin the cordial relationship between government and the workforce.
Governor Okowa said the retirement age of workers remained thirty-five years of service or sixty years of age, pointing out that as a former Senator who was well abreast of the constitution and would not do otherwise
The Governor thanked the leadership of the state NLC and the affiliated unions for their patience and support when the state was in recession, adding that government would not relent in meeting the welfare needs of workers.
He said his administration had enjoyed a warm relationship with the civil service which had led to the successful implementation of policies and programmes to better the lives of the people.
State chairman of the Nigeria labour congress, Comrade Jonathan Jemeriyigbe, who moved the motion for the endorsement of Governor Okowa for a second term, said his labour friendly disposition and positive stance on the new minimum wage recommended him.
Comrade Jemeriyigbe affirmed that the Governor had approved virtually all their requests, especially the payment of salary arrears to deserving workers, adding that the Governor deserved to be returned to complete the good works across the state.
