Serving Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has emerged winner of last Saturday’s Delta north senatorial election.

Nwaoboshi of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, polled a total of 186,423 votes to beat Honouranle Doris Uboh, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 36,350 votes.

The returning officer of the election, Dr Ignatius Ezoem, of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, declared him winner after announcing the results according to the votes cast for the various political parties.

Dr Ezoem said there were 850,968 registered voters in Delta north senatorial district, but only 239, 737 of them were accredited to vote.

In the course of announcing the results collated from the various centres the APC candidate, Honouranle Doris Uboh, came with a protest against the election result, alleging that there was shortage of smart card readers in some polling centres and massive thumb printing.

The returning officer , Dr Ezoem, however, announced that he lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the protest.

In an interview, the winner of the election, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, expressed gratitude to God for his victory, assuring the people of Delta north of a more robust representation at the Senate.

In a related development Honouranle Nicholas Mutu has been re-elected the sixth time as member representing the Bomadi/Patani federal constituency of Delta state in the House of Representatives.

The returning officer of the election, Dr Edeoghon Obehi, who announces the result at the Federal Constituency headquarters in Bomadi, said Honouranle Mutu polled 15,836 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Mr Collins Eselemo, the DPP candidate, Mr Ojoto Okubo and Mr Mulade Yerindideke of the SDP.
