The Delta state Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, has said all electoral materials for Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections are in the vault at the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Asaba and nor in the hands of politicians.
Dr. Omorogbe, who was briefing newsmen at the commission’s headquarters in Asaba, on the level of preparedness for the rescheduled election, apologised to Deltans, particularly eligible voters in the state for the inconvenience caused by the postponement of last Saturday’s election and gave an assurance that steps were being taken to ensure a hitch free Presidential and National Assembly election on February 23.
He said the Smart Card Readers needed for the election in the state had been reconfigured and announced that the distribution of materials for the election to the various local government areas of the state would commence on Thursday.
Dr. Omorogbe, who said no sensitive material was taken to the field before the postponement, pointed out that the materials were intact and would be distributed at the appropriate time.
He debunked the rumour that he was in Delta state to rig the election in favour of a political party, stressing that he had the mandate to conduct credible and transparent elections that would reflect the collective will of the people.
While saying that some materials for the election will still being expected from Abuja, Dr. Omorogbe pledged to be neutral in line with the vision of the electoral body.
Delta REC said adequate logistics were in place for the ad hoc staff for the election.
