Ahead of Saturday’s historical Presidential and National Assembly elections, the National Leadership of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has summoned an emergency National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the party.
The meeting, which will hold in Abuja, on Tuesday, is expected to be presided over by the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, confirmed the decision to hold the meeting.
It was gathered that the meeting will discuss issues related to the postponement of last Saturday’s elections.
It is also expected to analyse the speech of President Muhammadu Buhari, today, at the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Caucus meeting, which took place in Abuja, on Monday.
Apart from the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, Governors elected on the platform of the party, its National Officers, Principal Officers of the National Assembly, who are members of the former ruling party, are among those expected at the meeting.
The meeting comes as the PDP accused President Buhari and the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, of planning to derail the electoral process and throw the nation into political crisis.
The PDP was reacting to a statement credited to Buhari’s threat to those planning to hijack ballot boxes and disrupt the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.
It would be recalled that at a caucas meeting of the APC in Abuja on Monday, President Buhari said: “Anybody who decides to snatch ballot boxes or lead thugs to disturb the election, maybe that would be the last unlawful action he would take… I have directed the police and the military to be ruthless.”
