Over three thousand personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps have been deployed to provide security in polling stations across the state during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Among them are members of the Anti Riot, Counter Terrorism and Undercover squads.
The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Benito Eze, disclosed this while addressing the personnel at the corp’s parade ground in Asaba.
Dr. Eze said the personnel deployed had been trained in line with international best practices as they concerned elections, adding that while those in the Anti Riot and Counter Terrorism squads would patrol around the polling stations, operatives in the undercover squad would focus on intelligence gathering at the polling stations.
The Corps Commandant warned that on no account should any personnel of the corps carry arms close to the polling stations or accompany his principal to a polling station as anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted.
He said the corps would be working with other security agencies to ensure security during the elections and assured Deltans that the corps would not interfere in the electoral process.
Dr. Eze advised politicians and their supporters to shun violence and comport themselves in an orderly manner to guarantee a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.
