The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, Delta State, Dr Cyril Omorogbe, has disclosed that PVC collection in the State has hit 95% mark.
He made this known when he received the Delta State Stakeholders Forum in his office, in Asaba.
Dr Omorogbe told the group that, Delta State currently ranked among states that had recorded high number of PVC collection, stressing that it would be impossible to attain 100% PVC collection due to relocation of registrants, natural disasters, among other factors.
Tthe Delta REC said, “The issue of PVC collection, Delta as a state, is way ahead of other states in the country. At this point, we are actually knocking on about 95% of collection. There are some states that perhaps, cannot boast of 65%.
“Don’t expect 100% also, like I told you, we are not perfect. There is no way you can expect 100% collection of PVCs, because people who have some of these PVCs have probably left the state. Some of them are dead ” he added.
On the request by the Forum members for approval to deploy more members outside those already accredited by the national headquarters, Dr Omorogbe insisted that the State head office had no power to approve any domestic observer group outside those already accredited to observe the 2019 general elections in the state.
He advised the concerned members to prioritize areas of deployment to assuage their concerns for additional accreditation at the State level.
“Selection process, even approval process, was done at Abuja. We at the State level do not play a part in it. So it is difficult for us to now say at this stage we want to start interjecting ourselves into the process. My suggestion to you at this point will be, you decide sections that are important to you. For example you can divide it by Ward. You can decide which of the Wards you want to find your presence” he advised.
Earlier, the Forum President, Professor Nwannne Onyemenem assured the REC of the group’s desire to collaborate with the Commission to ensure free, fair and credible elections in Delta State.
Tthe State Administrative Secretary, Mr Felix Enabor and some management staff of the commission were present during the visit.
