The Presidential candidate of the Action Alliance Congress, AAC, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, says population explosion is not a problem, but the lack of opportunities for people to contribute to economic growth and development.
Mr. Sowore, who was a guest on the presidential townhall meeting organized by Daria Media and NTA, christened “The Candidates”, said the nation’s mono-economy centered on oil had left successive administrations in the country without ideas on how to invest for the future thereby leaving the people, especially the youth, hopeless.
He noted that the situation had led to low investment in education, health, technology and infrastructure, with the attendant consequence of a non performing economy and monumental poverty in the land.
The AAC presidential candidate said if given the mandate he would go after all companies that have been taxing their workers without remitting same to the national coffers, while an effective staff audit would be embarked on to fish out ghost workers in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, which he said were up to five hundred thousand in the federal civil service.
He faulted the deregulation of some critical sectors of the economy for lacking in competitiveness and robust investment, saying that the initiative only favoured cronies of persons in power without adding value to the economy.
The presidential hopeful regretted the situation in the power sector after over sixteen billion dollars had gone down the drains towards reviving the sector and promised to establish solar power plants to generate enough electricity to get the socio-economic life of Nigerians back on track.
Mr. Sowore, who appeared with the party’s vice presidential candidate, Dr. Ahmed Rufai, promised a minimum wage of one hundred thousand naira for federal workers if elected president, while states would get enhanced revenue allocation to pay their workers.
