Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday shocked the world at the Presidential Town Hall Meeting put together by Daria Media and NTA, otherwise called “The Candidates” by his failure to refute the allegation of his administration’s selective fight against corruption.

Buhari, while responding to the allegation as it concerned sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, said he acted on the recommendation of the three man panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo which investigated the former SGF.

The President said after sacking Babachir Lawal he did not find enough evidence to prosecute him for awarding contracts worth N500m to twenty ghost companies, through the Presidential Initiative on the North East, which he agreed amounted to a violation of the law and due process.

Buhari stated that no one could prove the alleged case of corruption against Lawal, even when the report of the investigation panel indicted him based on which he fired the then SGF.

Recall that the Senate Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North East investigated and indicted Babachir Lawal for corrupt enrichment.

The Senator Shehu Sani led committee asked the relevant agencies to prosecute him.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led three man panel also investigated and indicted the then SGF, who till date has yet to be prosecuted.
