Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adamu Mohammed has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He will, however, first serve in acting capacity.
The appointment effectively ends efforts by IGP Ibrahim Idris, who clocked 35 years in service tomorrow, January 15, 2019, to get service extension.
The appointment of AIG Adamu Mohammed as the new police helmsman dashes the hopes of those campaigning for a police officer of Igbo extraction to be handed the job.
It also brings to an abrupt end the career of all Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs).
